Odour Monitoring and Assessment

Odour Monitoring and Assessment

Odour monitoring and modelling projects are frequently completed by Air Noise Environment, with odour sampling and analysis completed in accordance with AS/NZS 4323.3:2001. We have experience in completing odour sampling from a range of ambient and source environments, including area sources (eg, surfaces of ponds/pools) and stack emission points. Odour modelling is completed using the most appropriate atmospheric dispersion modelling package for the project being considered, with the CALPUFF software suite most commonly used.

Where odour impacts do not comply with the relevant guidelines and standards, we have experience in developing odour control solutions and management measures.

Project Examples:

  • Odour compliance monitoring over a 10 week period for the commissioning and proving phase of upgrade works to the North Head Sewage Treatment Works in Sydney.
  • Bunya Landfill EIS - odour modelling and assessment.
  • Odour assessment for the Benowa repump station including odour dispersion modelling and assessment of control options.
  • Odour monitoring, dispersion modelling and assessment of mitigation options for a Planning and Environment Court Appeal for expansion of an existing poultry farm at Burbank, on behalf of Brisbane City Council.
  • Odour assessment for proposed upgrade to Banora Point and Tweed Heads STP.
  • Odour monitoring, dispersion modelling and assessment of mitigation options for Mount Cotton Sewage Treatment works
  • Expert report for a Planning and Environment appeal for an intensive piggery operation in Central Queensland.
  • Odour assessment and mitigation for proposed townhouse developments adjacent to existing small goods manufacturing operation at Holland Park.
